Matt Hagan’s Historical Funny Car Win in Pomona
April 16, 2026 — Pomona, CA
The 2026 NHRA Winternationals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip was a weekend to remember! The rain forecast was changing by the hour, some of NHRA’s legends from years past were celebrated, fans came out in increasing numbers throughout the weekend, nostalgic drag cars held a cacklefest in front of the stands, but most of all, this was NHRA’s 1000th Funny Car Race, and the battle to claim that victory was the talk of the track!
Of the 19 Funny Cars that qualified for elimination rounds, only one was going to get their name carved in the history books - Matt Hagan, who qualified 4th, was the driver who will forever be remembered as the 1000th NHRA Funny Car winner!
Late Sunday evening, Matt faced off against veteran driver Ron Capps, and what a race it was! Capps got a jump on Hagen off the line, by 0.010 of a second, and it was tight all the way down the track! Hagan was able to push his JHG powered Mopar past Capps at the 330ft mark, and never looked back all the way to the finish line. He ended up with a time of 3.876 seconds @330MPH, beating Caps NAPA powered Toyota by only 0.0071 seconds! What a finish! It was Hagan’s quickest pass of the weekend, and won by approximately 3 Feet!!!
Hagan had four strong pulls through all elimination rounds:
E1: 3.892ET @332.92MPH
E2: 3.906ET @329.64MPH
E3: 3.886ET @330.39MPH
E4: 3.876ET @330.39MPH
Below are some images from the weekend. Congratulations to Matt and TSR for their win this weekend!

Hagan off the line - notice the Hellcat comes to life well before the green - takes a split second for all of that power to move those beefy Goodyear’s out back!
Hagan had his eyes focused on the goal as he completed his burnout
